Yet other concepts such as door knocking arent very popular with the general public and may not create as much hype and attention as the media creates.
The media is also wwaaaay more accessible these days.

Controlling the media is not crucial to winning an election. The media can’t be controlled, at least, not in a liberal democracy. Using the media to spread your message and to downplay your opponents message is integral to winning an election but it does not mean that it is impossible to win an election without using the media.
Media does have an influence on politics, just look at all the publicity stunts carried out by politicians to get good press. But I dont think that a person decides who to vote for just on the basis of what they have heard about through the media.

The media needs the political parties as they need something to write about and something to criticise, whilst the politcial parties need the media to portray their beliefes and their ideologies to the public to try and get their message out their. Individuals are more likely to vote for their own needs now, such as to fixed the economic crisis in britain today, not towards their own social class. I do not think politics os entriely dependant on the media as it has other ways of promoting their party and throught their policies can gain votes and win elections.
